I purchased this watch to replace a Garmin Fenix 3. I love the removable bands though at this time I have no replacement straps yet. The Altimeter and Barometer function act up so I ran a very hilly half marathon and it said I had 0 elevation change which really ticked me off. Garmin needs to fix this issue before I can give it 5 stars. As an every day fitness watch, it is very upscale looking and durable.

I am extremely happy with this watch. I am a casual runner. I used it to train for a 5k and improve my overall fitness. I researched and read some negative reviews. In my opinion the watch has exceeded l of my expectations. The battery life is great. The accuracy seems to be good to excellent. I gave used it for treadmill running , outdoor running, cycling, golf tracking, and other exercise. All have given me great data and performance. I am not being paid for this review. In fact, I have rarely reviewed any item. My advice is buy this one. You won’t be disappointed. I have owned for a little over one month now.

Love in the first sight ! Looks very good. With the very easy to change band you can have very sporty look or classy look for office.
I love it. It tracks almost all kinds of activity. Screen is just excellent. You can read watch even under bright sunlight.
Battery life: I have charged in 1,5 hours with my computers USB port. After 24 hours (watch mode) battery level was %90.
You can control your music and calls also. This watch will be my all time watch.
Menus in the watch is easy to learn. IOS App is also very easy. In very short time I have downloaded new watch faces very easily.
Shipping was extreme fast ( I have chosen AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping). Package was very good.

This watch has been my favorite for three years. It was great until the battery or the battery management system died. I paid around $579 for it new. I would have expected a longer watch life for that price. At least 5 years. The battery is easy to change. I did ordered a replacement battery from Taiwan. I installed it and the watch keeps doing the same as with the old battery. That leads me to believe that is something with the watch charging or battery management system. The symptom is that the watch overheats to 105 degree Fahrenheit while connected to the charger, the battery percent merely goes above 10% to 14% after hours of charging and once disconnected from the charger, the 10% -14% charge disappears in a few short hours. This watch used to run a few days with 10% charge left. The smartwhatch functions work good. Is just that the battery subsystem is done. I’ll not buy this watch again, unless it’s sale price is below $100. My recommendation, if you really want it, buy it second hand, and don’t pay too much for it. if you pay more than $100 you are paying too much. They don’t last long.

Why Buy
Personally I think it’s the best smart/sports watch on the market for the price. The straps are easy to change, as they just click off and push on. Currently changing the straps will cost £44, with the stainless steel bracelet costing over £100. However, this does turn the watch into something you can wear for all occasions.
The Watch
The screen resolution of the watch is 250 x 250 and I’ve noticed when displaying an analogue watch face, it does appear pixelated, so there are sharper clearer watches on the market. It’s 47mm in size, with 37mm for the actual display and weighs 68g. You will notice that you are wearing it and overtime it is a weight on your wrist. To connect it to your phone you need to download the Garmin connect app. The watch will sync with the app ad you can customise it through the app which is easier or through the watch using the 5 buttons around the watch.
The battery life is amazing for what this watch can do. Using it quite a bit during the day it went from fully charged to 92% when I woke up the following morning. The menus are easy to navigate. It can get notifications from your phone but you do need to have Bluetooth enabled on the phone for this. GPS works well and is quick to lock outside. I’m using it with an iPhone 7 without any issues.
This model doesn’t have the sapphire crystal watch face but I brought tempered screen protectors which do the job. Once I applied the screen protector I haven’t noticed any smudging on the screen. The ones I brought were Kimilar Garmin 5 fenix Screen Protector. You can set the watch to vibrate only or have a tone sound as well.
Interface
The OS of the watch allows you to add Garmin and third party widgets, watch faces and applications. These are first downloaded using the Garmin Connect IQ app. Once downloaded a sync occurs to your watch, which then makes it available through the watches menu system, which is quite easy and intuitive to use. The phone app allows for the customisation to happen with the widget or watch face. On the watch you can then reorder how the apps appear when you go through the menu system. This way you only use the apps that you want and you don’t end up trawling through apps that you don’t want on the watch. Other than that the watch has quite a few sports profiles to choose from, depending on what sports you do, though it is clever is automatically working out which sport you are doing.
Overall a great watch. A bit pricey but you can tell it’s well designed and feature rich and great for anyone who does multi sports. This model doesn’t have Wi-Fi but it syncs to your phone which will have Wi-Fi so save your money and get this version over the more expensive one.

This watch is amazing. You can’t call or tex, you receive all your messages. It is dead on accuracy its amazing. I had it for 2 weeks it was down to 33 percent, before charges again.

Light and reliable with awesome functionality. So far, the HR capability is much better than with a chest strap – no gaps in reading or discomfort. Couldn’t recommend it more.
Avoid the 5X unless you have extremely thick wrists and large hands. I got the 47mm Fenix 5, and – despite being 6’3″ and 215 lbs and liking large watches – wouldn’t go bigger.

El reloj es de muy buenas características. Llegó muy rápido y funciona a la perfección. Es un equipo muy técnico, es decir, si sabes muy bien para que lo ocupas, te será de gran utilidad. No es solo para correr, es para actividades del ventura y que puedas contar con información y herramientas en la muñeca que te faciliten esas actividades.

Best fitness gps watch I ever had and I still have my Fénix 3 HR but was too big for my wrist. The 5 is the perfect size and has performance and other futures that improves on what already was a great watch ( Fénix 3 HR ).

J’avais une pebble 2 avant et je ne regrette pas mon achat.

neues Update

Ein paar Monate nach Ende des Garantiezeitraums hat meine Fenix 5 leider das zeitliche gesegnet und lies sich nicht mehr anschalten. Der Garmin Support hat mir einen Tausch gegen eine refurbished Fenix 5 zu einem fairen Preis angeboten und jetzt nutze ich diese.
Zwischenzeitlich hatte ich einen kurzen Abstecher zur Suunto 9 gemacht, Garmin trackt in meinen Augen aber deutlich zuverlässiger und gefällt mir von der Bedienung einfach besser.
Deswegen auch weiterhin 5 Sterne für die Fenix 5, auch dank des netten Garmin-Supports.

Update nach 2,5 Jahren Nutzung

Nach über zwei Jahren mit der Garmin wird es Zeit für ein Update der Rezension.
Nach wie vor ist die Akkulaufzeit super, mittlerweile nutze ich auch die Smart Notifications auf der Uhr für bestimmte Apps. Auch das funktioniert gut, wobei sich die Garmin App auf meinem OnePlus 3T teilweise im Hintergrund beendet und dann keine Benachrichtigungen mehr an die Uhr schickt. Auf meinem OnePlus 7T tritt das nicht mehr auf.
Ich nutze die Uhr täglich als normale Uhr und natürlich beim Laufen (indoor und outdoor), Rudern und Fitnesstraining. Die Werte bezüglich Training scheinen mir plausibel, sowohl Herzfrequenz als auch Entfernungen werden zuverlässig gemessen. Ich nutze den Garmin HRM Tri Brustgurt und speziell die Laufeffizienzanalyse hat mir doch geholfen meine Laufgeschwindigkeit und Effizienz zu verbessern.
Das Original-Armband hat es mittlerweile hinter sich (löste sich an der Verbindung zur Uhr auf), mittlerweile gibt es aber ja genügend Drittanbieter die Armbänder anbieten.
Die Lünette hat mittlerweile einige deutliche Kratzer, hier wäre es toll wenn Garmin ein etwas widerstandsfähigeres Material finden würde oder ein Tausch der Lünette möglich wäre.

Erste Rezension nach 3 Wochen

Nachdem ich die Fenix 5 gestern seit drei Wochen zum ersten Mal wieder ans Ladegerät gesteckt habe wird es wohl Zeit für eine Rezension.
Ausschlaggebend für die Suche nach einer Sportuhr waren für mich:
– Akkulaufzeit, ich mag meine Uhr nicht mehrmals wöchentlich aufladen müssen
– permanente Pulsaufzeichnung
– integriertes GPS
– alltagstaugliches Design
– Always-On-Display
Die Garmin erfüllt all dies einwandfrei, Smartphone-Notifications sind mir nicht wichtig und auch abgestellt.
Wie erwähnt hielt der Akku jetzt 3 Wochen (wobei ich die Uhr nachts abnehme und dann auch der HF-Sensor Pause macht). In den drei Wochen waren mehrere Trainingseinheiten mit gekoppeltem Brustgurt und aktivem GPS enthalten, die Ausdauer kann sich wirklich sehen lassen. Das Display ist in beinahe jeder Situation sofort ablesbar, egal ob direktes Sonnenlicht oder Halbdunkel, die Beleuchtung brauche ich nur relativ selten.
Die Anpassungsmöglichkeiten mit Watchfaces sind umfangreich, allerdings braucht es etwas Geduld um das passende Watchface zu finden – hier hat bei mir die Synchronisation teilweise etwas gehakt und auch mal 2 Anläufe gebraucht. Die Bedienung mit den Hardware-Tasten ist meiner Meinung nach den Touchscreens deutlich überlegen, ich habe auch mit Samsung Gear S3 und Huawei Watch 2 geliebäugelt – die Bedienung der Fenix ist aber in meinen Augen einfach besser. Viele läßt sich auch aus der Garmin Connect App vom Handy aus einstellen, lediglich die Einrichtung der Trainings-Screens geht nur an der Uhr und ist etwas aufwändig. Das ist aber wie das Watchface ein einmaliger Aufwand und durchaus zu verkraften.
Optisch macht die Fenix einen hochwertigen Eindruck und ist dank des Displays auch direkt als Uhr zu erkennen. Ich habe mir neben dem Standard-Silikon-Armband noch das braune Lederarmband für Büro und Alltag gegönnt und finde damit paßt die Uhr wirklich zu jedem Anlass.
Von mir eine 100% Kaufempfehlung, klar wird für die Uhr ein stolzer Preis fällig, aber wer eine smarte Sportuhr mit Ausdauer und umfangreichen Funktionen will kommt an der Fenix nicht vorbei.
